Snowdin

From DELTATRAVELER Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

Snowdin is an area in Deltatraveler, visitable briefly in Section 1 - In Ruins and at the end of Section 3 - Hell's Forest taking place in the world of Undertale, but only small portions of it are viewable in-game.

It is first reached after Kris and Susie defeat Flowey in the Ruins, but after reuniting with Noelle, picking up the Heavy Branch, and meeting Sans (Undertale), the trio goes through the first grey door taking them to the world of EarthBound, leaving Snowdin behind. After defeating Sans (GG!Underfell), the party revisits Snowdin, specifically Snowdin Town. Various NPCs and items can be found here, and the player can play UNO in the library (unless on the Obliteration Route).

Geography/Story

This page will only cover parts of Snowdin that are visible in Deltatraveler.

Ruins Exit and Box Road

Box Road SavePoint.png

Snowdin starts with a long horizontal room from exiting the Ruins. Near the end, a "sentry station" can be found, which is really just a hot dog stand. Near it, there is a lamp which doesn't appear very conveniently-shaped to Kris.

The next room is a room with a save point and a Dimensional Box that cannot be interacted with. Usually, this room allows the player to progress through Snowdin, but the trio finds a grey door in the room, which they go through, meaning the rest of Snowdin Forest is not explored.

Inn

The inn is the first room the party finds themselves in after leaving the world of GG!Underfell. Inside, Kris meets the Undertale versions of Dess and Noelle, the latter being known as "Noel". Inside, the party can interact with some bunny NPCs. On a Normal Route with no EXP earned and all enemies in Section 3 (other than Jerry) spared, the player can find a Striped Bird NPC as well, where the player can get an Egg.

Town

Snowdin Town SavePoint.png

The main town is a long horizontal room with several NPCs, though not all NPCs are the same as Undertale. This room has a save point and a Dimensional Box. Despite the last Dimensional Box being in a different world, this box still allows the player to access items that were stored earlier. Heading to the far east of town will lead to Waterfall.

The Christmas tree in-between the shop and Grillby's provides dialogue between Noelle and Susie, with Noelle saying you can't ever escape the holidays, with Susie agreeing since Noelle's always around, which flusters her. Susie is confused in response. Interacting with the tree again causes Kris to notice some mistletoe, which makes them feel like it wouldn't help the situation.

Unlike in Undertale, the small igloo can't be used as fast travel from one end of the town to the other, since Kris's head is too big to fit inside.

Snowdin Shop

Main article: Sans (Undertale)

The shop in Snowdin is ran by Sans temporarily, who mentions that he's covering for Q.C. He sells the same items that he did in Desolate Snowdin, but now offers new talk dialogue and allows the player to sell 3 items to him.

End of Bridge

If the player heads to the far west, they will find Papyrus (Undertale) by the end of the bridge that leads to Snowdin Town. The bridge is blocked by a "big, dangerous cannon". Papyrus offers a special reward to the group if they have something special for him; if the player was able to get the Egg from the Striped Bird NPC, they can swap it for the Papyrus Charm. Papyrus will also have special dialogue if Kris has the Silver Key.

Grillby's

Grillby's features several NPCs. While some of the NPCs are from Undertale, their dialogues are different due to Deltatraveler taking place at a different time of day.

North of Town, River

Taking the northern path midway through town takes the player to an area with more NPCs and a Flavor Mole. Heading further north reveals a river where Dess and Noel are leaving from. If the player is on the Normal Route, Goku is also on the boat. Approaching the river will cause Kris to receive the "wrong number song" from Undertale.

Library

The library, misspelled as "librarby", features some books that the player can read, the librarian NPC, and Papyrus (Inverted Fate). Talking to Papyrus will allow the player to play UNO unless they are on the Obliteration Route or the route was aborted not too long before arriving.

Sans's House & Basement

Sans's house is visible from the outside, but cannot be entered as it is locked. Noelle and Susie comment on how it looks very similar to how it does back home. Heading around the back, the player can find the basement door, which is locked, but using the Silver Key allows the player to unlock it. Kris goes in alone. Most of the interactions in this room are different to Undertale, where Kris can see the badge is for "LV 10 CLEARANCE" in the royal sciences laboratory. The machine in disrepair appears eerily familiar to Kris. Finally, the photobook, when inspected, reveals that there are pictures of Kris, their friends, and other residents back in Kris's home world. Kris closes the book afterwards, and cannot bring themselves to look at it again. The music in the room stops after the narration says there are pictures of Kris in the photobook. After inspecting the photobook, leaving the room will cause Noelle to notice that Kris appears distraught.

NPCs

Inn

From first floor to second floor:

  • Inn Keeper's child: A short white rabbit peering over the front desk. Interacting with after the cutscene with Dess (Undertale) and Noel will cause them to say that they met a human, only to then ask what's a human.
  • Inn Keeper: Interacting with causes her to say that it was kind of "those two" to bring Susie and Noelle to the inn. Noelle asks who they were, to which the Inn Keeper says they were Rudy's kids, who used to live in Snowdin, but that was before Rudy fell down one day, and then they moved to the city. Noelle thinks to herself what "fallen down" means, and then thanks the Inn Keeper for letting them stay. Interacting again causes the Inn Keeper say she hopes the trio has a good time at Snowdin Town.
  • Striped Bird: Only appears if no EXP was earned and all enemies aside from Jerry in Section 3 were fought and spared. Interacting with will cause them to give them an egg, saying it is only for the most responsible beings. Interacting again will cause the Striped Bird to mention the trio should go to the library and read all the books, before saying "have a wonderful" with a gap at the end of their dialogue where a word would usually be. Each repeat interaction adds an extra exclamation mark at the end, until eventually the Striped Bird's dialogue changes, and eventually wonders what kind of damnation awaits them, then saying "he watches us all the same", before disappearing out of nowhere. Susie is extremely confused, and Noelle asks nervously who is "he". Susie says she doesn't know but she'll kick his ass, saying that whoever it is can't be as bad as what they've already faced, then saying that maybe the Striped Bird was messing with them.

Town

From left to right:

  • Rabbit Kid: Interacting with causes him to say that he feels like he's about to see something disturbing later, mentioning "someone walking their little brother on a leash" as an example. Noelle is confused by this, but the Rabbit Kid tells the trio to forget what he said since he just woke up. Interacting again causes him to mention that he's been right about morning thoughts before.
  • Blue Demon: Interacting with causes them to wonder if Santa will ever deliver their wish, which is their sister's return, since she fell down once, was revived to health by a doctor, but she hasn't returned and the doctor hasn't answered their calls. Noelle shares her condolences for the Blue Demon and tries to give them some hope, while Susie mentions that it was a bit of a downer way to introduce themselves, to which the Blue Demon says it's why they rarely go out anymore. Interacting again will cause them to say that their brother is at least still alive and is the reason why they get out of bed.
  • Monster Kid's Sister: Interacting with causes her to ask if the trio are tourists, to which Susie says "I guess". She expresses her surprise at Undyne letting the trio through (not knowing how they arrived), saying that she wouldn't let her into Waterfall. She mentions her little brother loves Undyne but isn't awake yet. After presumably being asked about the boat home by Kris, she requests the trio doesn't follow her. Interacting again causes Susie to ask why, causing MK's Sister to become defensive, leading to Susie taunting her a little. Noelle tells Susie to leave MK's Sister alone, to which MK's Sister agrees.
  • Frostermit: Interacting with causes them to say it's great visiting Snowdin Town since everyone's friendly, then saying they wish it wasn't so far from home. Interacting again causes them to say that some people worry about folks from the city coming to the town, but points out Snowdin is much bigger than people believe it is. Noelle wonders what sights the trio could see if they properly explored, but then says it's too bad they don't have time.
  • Red Demon: Interacting with causes them to say they're not a jester, but a demon, mentioning that just because they smile all the time doesn't mean their a clown. They then say that being called "JEVIL II" by "something Quetzalcoatl III" haunts them in their dreams, though they forget their first name, believing it to be something with a G. Interacting again causes Susie to ask how they remembered that last name, to which the Red Demon says it was so stupid that it was funny. They say that their friend hates the story, but she also hates Sans's jokes, so it's not too surprising.
  • Minecraft Allay: Interacting with causes them to ask where the hell they are, saying they were watching their "favourite frog streamer", then a grey door replaced their closet and it took them to Snowdin. Susie relates to the Allay. Interacting again causes Noelle to ask if they know why it happened, to which the Allay says the streamer had a rare event happen and then they noticed it, though they aren't sure if the events are related.

North of Town

From left to right:

  • Dad Slime: Interacting with causes him to say that the dawn of a new day is imperceptible to the night, with the only way to tell the time is by using clocks or checking the infrequent holes in the Underground. Susie asks why they don't just leave through the holes, resulting in the Dad Slime explaining the barrier that keeps the monsters in is more of a bubble rather than a wall, which is why they can't do so, nor can they fly out or break through rocks. Interacting again causes Susie to say it "sounds like hell", so the Dad Slime says that Susie will feel his anguish one day. Susie thinks to herself that she's glad she doesn't live in the Underground.
  • Flavor Mole: see Flavor page
  • Ice Wolf: Can't be directly interacted with, but interacting with the fence near him will cause Noelle to say that even in this world, Ice Wolf loves throwing ice.
  • Charles: A mole who works at the CORE. Interacting with causes them to say that they're not like the Flavor Mole, but is just a worker at the CORE, ensuring that Ice Wolf is still throwing ice to keep the CORE cool, which he is, then proclaiming that they love "PUZZLE". Interacting again causes them to mention there seems to be more moles around than usual, which could be referencing the Rough Mole who randomly appears in Waterfall.

Library

  • Library Lizard: Interacting with causes them to welcome the trio to the library. Susie corrects them, saying it's "librarby", which they respond with "that's a mispelling." Susie shouts that she was lied to, prompting the Library Lizard to tell Susie to keep her voice down. Susie then thinks to herself that the school system has failed the trio. Interacting again causes Noelle to point out that their library sign at Hometown is also spelled incorrectly, and that they were going to fix it next week. Susie says "Oh." in response.
  • Papyrus (Inverted Fate): see his page

Trivia

  • Originally, prior to version 2.0.0, entering the Grey Door would have ended the game, concluding with a "To be continued..." text written in the Earthbound style and textbox, foreshadowing Section 2 - Oh, Mother.
  • The various NPCs appearing in Snowdin Town that don't usually appear in Undertale is a subtle hint to the "dimensional destruction" caused by the grey doors that was mentioned by Porky in Section 2 - Oh, Mother.
  • The Blue Demon NPC that appears in Snowdin doesn't appear in Undertale, however there was a Blue Demon NPC that was planned but scrapped, along with an Amalgamate demon. The Blue Demon's appearance seems to reference this, as well as their dialogue referencing the amalgamate demon.
