Oh, Mother Icon.png Oh, Mother (or, alternatively, Section 2) is the second Section of Deltatraveler, taking place in Earthbound's world.

It was originally released in June 27th, 2022. Like with the previous section, it had a very positive reception.

Story

Normal Route

The Delta Warriors arrive in the world of Earthbound. Due to the unfamiliar gameplay style making the trio feel weird, Kris and Noelle use a new spell called LightClear to change the world into a style more familiar to them. They go through Peaceful Rest Valley, where they discover that they can contact the Toriel from Deltarune with Kris's phone, and where Sans (Undertale) will sell useful items. Arriving at Happy Happy Village, they see that the Happy-Happism cult, a cult that believes the world will be a better place if everything is painted blue, controls the place. Locals mention that the way to Lilliput Steps is blocked off due to the next grey door appearing at the end, so the trio looks around the village.

They end up meeting Paula, a young girl imprisoned in a mountain cabin. She is freed thanks to Susie. Then, time appears to stop around Kris and W. D. Gaster starts talking to them about Paula being an "Essence Holder" and that she could benefit Kris's cause. Once Gaster is done talking, everything returns to normal. Paula says that they will need her to get to the grey door since they need a bomb that Mr. Carpainter (the leader of the cult) has to destroy the seal towards Lilliput Steps and she has a Franklin Badge that reflects his lethal lightning attacks. She ends up piggybacking on Kris. Upon exiting the cabin the team finds Porky. Paula says that Porky was one of the people who kidnapped her, causing Susie to start chasing him. She later returns, unable to catch him. The party head to the town hall and defeat Mr. Carpainter with the help of Paula's Franklin Badge, putting an end to the Happy-Happyism cult and being given a bomb to allow the party into Lilliput Steps.

At the end of Lilliput Steps, they defeat Mondo Mole to gain access to the very end of the area. Approaching the grey door, Paula says her goodbyes, but Porky suddenly appears with his mech and tells them that he wants to kill the trio because they are causing dimensional destruction and that would ruin Giygas' plans. Not going down without a fight, Paula and the trio team up one last time to take down Porky. Regardless of how the battle ends, Porky is defeated and Ness appears and meets Paula, both of whom were looking for each other. Paula explains to Ness the trio was looking for the grey door. Understanding everything, Ness then speaks to the party and thanks them for taking care of everything and bringing him closer to defeating Giygas. Ness and Paula continue on their way, saying their goodbyes while Kris, Susie and Noelle do the same. The trio jumps through the grey door into the world of GG!Underfell.

Obliteration Route

The trio arrive in the world of Earthbound and Kris and Noelle use a new spell called LightClear to change the world's style to one more familiar to the trio. They go through Peaceful Rest Valley, where they discover that they can contact the Toriel from Deltarune and where Sans (Undertale) will sell useful items. After killing all the creatures in the area, the team feels strong enough to draw blood.

After killing the Coil Snake, Susie gets furious at Kris, asking them what is their problem. Kris's only explanation is that they can't control themselves, but Susie doesn't believe them. Noelle convinces Susie that maybe Kris is right, pointing out that they've been acting differently for a few days. Susie tells Kris that they need to talk about this when they get a chance, but since they currently have to keep moving, all she can do is hope that there's something Kris can do about it.

Arriving at Happy Happy Village, they kill a Blue Cultist, causing a creepy woman to walk over and mention how the team's LOVE has been rising. She then approaches Kris and "rewards" them with a hard blow to the head with a frying pan, knocking them out. Unable to stop the player's actions, Kris hopes to never wake up, but Susie and Noelle take them to the local hospital, where a doctor informs Kris that they have a concussion.

When they leave looking for a way to progress, they eventually meet Paula, a young girl imprisoned in a mountain cabin. She is freed thanks to Susie. Then, time appears to stop around Kris and W. D. Gaster starts talking to them about Paula being an "Essence Holder". But before he can finish, Kris falls to the floor due to their concussion. Seeing Kris's condition, Paula suggests the party heads to Lilliput Steps, since the end of that area has healing powers that can heal Kris. She then tells the party that it'd be best if they stay at the cabin while she looks for someone that can help, but Susie prefers to keep going and they exit, finding Porky outside. He mentions that he was going to catch Paula again, but she ran away when he mentioned the killers on the loose. Susie starts to chase him, but he gets away. Upon returning, she sees that Paula dropped her Franklin Badge and gives it to Kris, who decides to wear it. They go to the town hall and confront Mr. Carpainter. After fatally wounding him, he gives them a bomb to see if their violent nature will heal upon reaching Lilliput Steps, and then begs them to "spare the children" before dying.

After killing the rest of the enemies in Lilliput Steps, they confront Mondo Mole in order to gain access to the end of the area. After killing it, it tells Kris that they are going to have to make a difficult decision now that they have killed it. When they get there and are about to leave, Ness and Paula show up to stop the Delta Warriors from killing more people on more worlds. Despite Susie and Noelle's attempts to avoid fighting them, they end up taking part in the battle, and Ness is killed. Paula tries to revive him with a Horn of Life, but it has no effect. Filled with rage, she gives it her all to get revenge, but fails and is fatally wounded. When Paula is about to die, she seemingly tries to attack the screen directly causing it to crack, but she ends up succumbing to her injuries and collapsing before it breaks. After this, the Delta Warriors continue on their way, jumping through the grey door into the world of GG!Underfell.

Aborted Obliteration Route

There are changes depending on when it's aborted, but the most important change occurs at the end. At first, it looks like the normal Obliteration Route, but Porky appears instead of Ness & Paula. He tells the Delta Warriors that he thought they were the murderers, but changed his mind when he saw that they couldn't kill Mondo Mole. But even though he thinks Mondo Mole did the killing, he still wants to finish them off because they're causing dimensional destruction which would ruin Giygas' plans. After finishing the battle, Ness appears and explains how he heard that murders had happened in that area. He too assumes it was Mondo Mole and believes the Delta Warriors took care of everything and freed Paula. After saying goodbye, they continue on their way.

Alternatively if they choose to kill Mondo Mole and spare Ness and Paula the two will let you go, mad at you but glad you stopped your ways. Various changes that are present in the Obliteration Route still apply in Section 3, such as being unable to play UNOTRAVELER.

If the Coil Snake is killed but the route is aborted immediately afterwards, the story is much more similar to the Normal Route, with only some minor dialogue changes after sparing the Blue Cultist, and after the Porky fight.

Trivia

  • During the initial reveal of all future sections in the official Discord server of Deltatraveler, Section 2 was called "Valley Blues".
    • Additionally, there were plans to change the Section name in the end credits depending on the route the player was in: "Oh, Mother" for the Normal Route, and "Valley Blues" for the Obliteration Route. However, the idea got scrapped.
  • The [MOSS] joke included in Section 1 was going to return in Section 2, but VyletBunni forgot to include it. Since she felt like it wouldn't belong in Section 3, it was decided that moss would not be a recurring joke in future sections.[1]
    • However, a slight nod to moss was still included in this section. When repeatedly talking to one of the Blue Cultist NPCs in the City Hall after sparing Mr. Carpainter, the Blue Cultist will mention starting a greenhouse where they can grow moss, which gets Susie's attention.
