Sans (Undertale)
Not to be confused with Sans (GG!Underfell).
Sans is the supporting protagonist in Deltatraveler. He first appears briefly at the end of Section 1, before acting as an item vendor in Section 2 and Section 3. He originates from Undertale.
Role in Deltatraveler
Section 1 - In Ruins
Sans first appears in Snowdin Forest, following the battle against Flowey, recruiting Noelle and acquiring the
Heavy Branch. In a manner akin to his introduction in Undertale, he approaches Kris, Susie and Noelle as a silhouette. Immediately suspicious, Susie threatens Sans, which causes him to abandon his mysterious demeanour and greet the protagonists normally. He quickly figures that the protagonists are from another world and suggests the trio finds Alphys, much to the confusion of Susie. He then warns them about his brother, Papyrus, before leaving.
Section 2 - Oh, Mother
Sans next appears at the end of Peaceful Rest Valley. He acts as the item shop for Section 2, selling the party EarthBound-themed items in exchange for GOLD. He can also be talked to for advice and additional information. However, he doesn't allow you to sell items to him.
In the Obliteration Route, he keeps the same role, but appears suspicious of the party's actions.
Section 3 - Hell’s Forest
Sans’ role is the same as in Section 2, except he now sells some Undertale-themed items. Before fighting his evil counterpart, Sans will give the gang a discount on everything and suggest getting an ice weapon. After returning to the world of Undertale, he temporarily runs the Snowdin shop and allows the party to sell three items to him.
In the Obliteration Route, the prices of his items drastically increase as he is fully aware of what the party has been doing.
Dialogue
Overworld
- Sans: heya. [When interacting for the first time in Section 2]
- Susie: WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING HERE?!?!
- Sans: oh, sorry about not knockin' on the door before entering.
- besides, you could probably use my help.
- Noelle: And how are you going to help us, exactly...?
- Sans: by selling you useful stuff that i don't need, of course.
- whaddya want?
- What's up? [Upon interacting]
- see ya. [Nothing]
Talk quotes
Section 2
(Normal Route)
- Sans: this is really nice.
- Sans: i haven't been outside in for so long.
- Sans: never take what you have for granted.
- Sans: because someday, it may just vanish.
- Susie: What the hell does that mean...?
- Sans: i dunno. maybe you'll find out someday.
- Susie: ?????
(When Paula is in the party)
- Sans: hey, is that another human that you're lugging around?
- Sans: is that the girl that the people in twoson were worried about?
- Paula: Well, I'd hope that they're worried...
- Sans: i see.
- Sans: so that makes you paula.
- Paula: ...Yeah.
- Sans: cool.
- Sans: well i hope you get home safe soon.
- Sans: same to the rest of you.
(After killing the Coil Snake)
- if i may ask...
- what was that yelling that i heard?
- ...
- eh, forget it.
- you don't need to tell me.
- it doesn't really matter in the end.
- just...
- i hope you're happy with the path that you're taking.
(After Kris gets the concussion)
- did uhh... something happen?
- i just saw a bunch of people run out of this cave in a hurry.
- and you... you look awful.
- ...
- eh, don't worry about telling me anything.
- you've got other things to worry about.
Section 3
(After Doggo's sentry spot)
- Sans: whoa, you guys almost looked like you were gonna jump at me. [Normal Route]
- Sans: did you find an evil doppelganger or somethin'?
- Susie: ... Yeah.
- Sans: well, maybe you should know about some special attacks.
- Sans: say, where'd the other two go? [Obliteration Route]
- Sans: didja do something to upset 'em?
- Sans: (... not surprising.)
- Sans: well, since you're alone you should prolly know a few things about battle.
- Sans: if you see a blue attack, don't move and it won't hurt you.
- Sans: here's an easy way to keep it in mind.
- Sans: imagine a stop sign. when you see a stop sign, you stop, right?
- Sans: stop signs are red. so imagine a blue stop sign instead.
- Sans: simple, right? when fighting, think about blue stop signs.
- [Normal Route, if advice from the Flavor Mole in Section 2 wasn't asked]
- Susie: Okay, that would've been nice to know in the last place we were.
- Susie: But uhh... What about those orange bullets we just saw?
- [Normal Route, if advice from the Flavor Mole in Section 2 was asked]
- Susie: Yeah, we were told.
- Susie: But uhh... What about those orange bullets we just saw?
- [Obliteration Route]
- Sans: huh?
- Sans: you saw orange bullets last fight?
- Sans: well, for orange attacks, think of that stop sign again.
- Sans: orange is the opposite of blue, right?
- Sans: so do the opposite of stop.
- Sans: ... or in other words, move through it.
- Sans: hope that helps.
(Second interaction)
- Sans: remember... blue stop signs. orange go signs.
(After Lesser Dog's sentry spot)
- Sans: so how's the traps been going?
- Susie: It's been real annoying.
- Noelle: He's just been making Kris do all of them.
- Sans: sounds about right.
- Sans: but what about all the effort papyrus has been putting in?
- Susie: HE'S BEEN TRYING TO KILL US.
- Sans: nah, no way.
- Sans: he'd never hurt a fly.
- Sans: or at least he wouldn't unprovoked.
- Noelle: Then why does he force us to do dangerous puzzles?
- Sans: methinks it's not just him.
- Sans: prolly would be a good idea to put into perspective what's going on.
- Susie: Hmm...
(After the Gauntlet of Deadly Terror)
- Sans: hey, umm...
- Sans: i think i saw my doppelganger for a split second.
- Sans: i don't think he saw me, but...
- Sans: i wouldn't be surprised if he attacked you guys again.
- Sans: so, uhh...
- Sans: i guess i could offer you guys a discount.
- Sans: my treat.
- Noelle: I, umm...
- Noelle: T-thanks!
- Sans: oh, also.
- Sans: maybe go in with an ice weapon on hand.
- Sans: i feel like it'd be important to resolving things well.
- Susie: ...?
Shop (General)
- heya. how can i help ya? [Upon entrance]
- hey, i'm trying to get rid of stuff, not get more. (Sell option in Section 2 and 3 shops)
- maybe if we get back to the underground, we can see if my brother wants anything.
- not really doing anything else [Exiting a menu]
- see ya later. [Exit]
Buy
- whaddya want? [While purchasing]
- thanks. [Buying]
- you don't have the money. [Not enough GOLD for purchase]
- ya don't want that? [Refuse buy]
- you're carrying too much stuff. [Full inventory]
Sell
- okay, i talked with papyrus... [First time selecting, Snowdin shop]
- under a heavy disguise...
- says he's pretty bored from polishing a cannon.
- so i can buy three things off of you for now.
- be sure to choose what you wanna sell wisely.
- watcha got? [While selling]
- thanks for that. [Item sold]
- i'm not taking any more stuff. [Trying to sell more after 3 items were already sold]
- not that? [Refuse sell]
- you should, uhh...keep that. [When trying to sell the Snow Ring]
- i'm not taking this crap. [When trying to sell the Clean Pan]
- really??? you'll just do that to him? [When trying to sell the Papyrus Charm]
Unused/removed quotes
- eh, no thanks. [Unused; appears when trying to sell specific unused items, formerly appeared when trying to sell an empty item slot]
- never seen this, you dirty hacker. [Unused; When trying to sell the Test Knife, Test Chest, or Test Food]
- you should give this to papyrus personally. [Removed; formerly appeared when trying to sell the Egg]
Talk
- i can tell you about shopping stuff.
About yourself (First time)
In Section 2 and 3
- hey, i don't think i asked what your name was.
- ... kris, huh.
- that's cool.
- i'm sans. sans the skeleton.
- but you already knew that.
- and because you already knew that, i'm gonna tell you something that you don't know.
- ...
- [If selected in Section 2]
- actually wait a sec, we only just met like 20 minutes ago.
- [If selected in Section 3]
- actually wait a sec, we only just met like an hour ago.
- don't you know that friendship takes time?
- besides, don't you have anything more important to do?
In Snowdin Town, if it wasn't selected already
- i think i've seen enough of your adventures to figure out that your name is kris.
- but we can get better aquainted when i'm NOT covering for someone.
About yourself (Second time onwards)
- there's isn't much that i can really tell you about me right now.
- for all intents and purposes, i'm just the convenient store guy.
Section 2 Shop
About shop
- well, i found a buncha stuff when i fell, and i don't have any use for it.
- so hey, why not give it to someone else?
- huh? why aren't they free?
- i've gotta pay bills somehow.
What's a BASH weapon
- oh yeah, that label on the bats that i found.
- well, some weapons behave differently in battles, and have different names for their types.
- for example, susie's stick is a SLASH weapon, and it does the stuff that you already know about.
- and noelle's ring is an ICERING. it doesn't hit very well, but she can use her MAGIC in battle.
- and the bat is a BASH weapon.
- that basically means that it's usually pretty strong, but aiming gradually speeds up. might be harder to use.
- of course, you won't need it if you're being nice to everyone.
If this option is chosen, after exiting the shop, Susie will wonder how Sans knows her name despite never telling him.
Red capped kid
- so i was wandering around that twoson town, and some weirdo came up to me and asked where my red cap was.
- then he tried to punch me and showed a ruler before he ran off.
- needless to say, but that was weird.
- oh, right, the red-capped kid.
- i guess it's some kid that's tryna save the world.
- not unlike you in some aspects.
Section 3 Shop
Doppelganger
- have you heard of the multiverse before?
- it's something that sounds really sci-fi, but is literally happening around us right now.
- in fact, it's something i've studied pretty extensively ever since coming here.
- well, when i came to where i live, i mean.
- uhh, anyway.
- because of the opportunity of choice and variation, there are multiple ways that events can play out, and the different worlds we see are their impacts.
- they're known as alternate universes.
- if two of these universes are only just slightly different, but are otherwise similar, then i call those two alternate timelines.
- in the case of this place, i'd say it's an alternative timeline to the universe i live in.
- it's... obviously in a pretty bad state.
- and i'm sure i don't have to tell you that it clearly affected the me that lives here.
- huh? why would the me from here be so violent?
- ... we probably shouldn't talk about that right now.
ICESLASH Weapon?
- everyone loves new weaponry, right?
- especially stuff that's useless to most people.
- like the icicle that i'm selling.
- very weak SLASH weapon. it's as powerful as plastic.
- but hey, i did say "most people."
- maybe noelle could see use in it.
- after all, she does have ice magic.
- maybe she could harness its coldness or something. dunno.
Royal Scientist
- alphys? she's very cool.
- very smart, nice, and cool.
- not surprised she has such a high position.
- she's helped me a lot with stuff i wasn't really knowledgeable on.
- she's a bit of a dork. really into anime and cartoons.
- but hey, aren't we all a bit dorky?
- now why you'd think she was a guy is beyond me.
- that'd be like me assuming your gender, kris. it'd be pretty rude.
- unless you were referring to an older royal scientist.
- which is an unsolved case.
- i don't know much about previous positions, other than they were responsible for making the core.
- though at this point, no one cares about who made the core, just that it's being maintained.
- it's our only source of power, after all.
Snowdin Shop
What're you doing
- why am i working a random odd job?
- i'm covering for the shop owner, q.c.
- i owe her for, uhh...papyrus getting into some trouble.
- it's fine, though. pay's pretty good.
- ...but i get the odd feeling that i'm forgetting to do something.
- something something calibrating my puzzles...
- eh, whatever.
Directions
- funnily enough, we're at the end of the forest.
- past town is where we enter the marsh.
- it's called "waterfall."
- prolly cuz of all the waterfalls.
- i hear the royal guard head is doing some searching around there.
- keep an eye out for her.
Doppelganger
- looks like you guys took care of evil me.
- went about as well as it could've. [If doppelganger Sans was spared]
- cuz i dunno if the... other option would be pretty.
- or even satisfy the justice itch.
- but who can really say? what's been done, 's been done.
- sorry you had to deal with him. [If doppelganger Sans was killed]
- it's hard to even imagine what kinda place he was in when you met him.
- ...but it's not hard for me to see how that could've started.
- but, uhh...on an unrelated note... [If doppelganger Sans was killed with Ice Shock]
- i think it's a bad idea to abuse ice magic.
- i mean, plenty of folks here have frozen themselves to the floor and had to call the guard to help.
- but also...
- it's really powerful to master.
- power that requires incredible responsibility to handle.
- i doubt you'd be able to even get close to mastering ice magic on your journey.
- but in your dreams, you could do anything.
- actually, uhh...
- ...nevermind.
Photobook
Becomes available after ispecting the photobook in Sans's workshop, replacing "About yourself".
Upon selecting it, much of the shop's background will turn darker, with only a spotlight on Sans, and the music will stop.
- ...
- heh...
- you know me, kris. i'm not much of a talker.
- and when it comes to THAT stuff, well...
- ...let's just say that i'm not feeling any more chatty.
- especially with susie and noelle around.
- admittedly, it's...pretty tiring not rushing things here. after so long.
- but the last thing any of us need is for things to get more complicated.
- we've all dealt with enough stress for one lifetime.
- and besides...
(The background turns bright again and the music resumes)
- maybe don't stick your nose where it doesn't belong.
- you don't know what kind of dark secrets you'll find.
- ...and regret knowing about.
- now gimme back my key.
- [If the Silver Key was not absorbed]
- thank you.
- [If the Silver Key was absorbed by Spamton]
- huh? someone stole it from you?
- well why didnt'cha kill 'em like you always do?
- oops, getting ahead of myself.
Photobook (second time)
- nah.
