Jerry
Jerry is a secret boss in Section 3 - Hell's Forest, encountered inside the cave with the mysterious door. During Glyde's very first attack, Jerry will suddenly slash across the screen with its
Bluster Blade, killing them instantly and making its grandiose introduction. It will start in the Hostile state.
If spared (or ditched), Jerry will thank the Delta Warriors for showing it a better future and will give its
Blood Bandana as a reward to Kris; It can then be found near the XOXO ice puzzle.
If killed, it will be possible to retrieve its
Bluster Blade as a reward.
Attacks
Jerry will primarily fight with its
Bluster Blade, a WIND infused katana capable of several different types of attacks based on the color it currently is, which will also affect the SOUL's color and power. Additionally, for each time a type of attack is repeated, it will gradually increase its intensity and overall complexity.
Normal Mode
During this mode, the SOUL will be in its usual red color state.
- [LV 1] Jerry will slash its katana 3 times to its sides, creating red waves that will swipe across the Bullet Board from one direction.
- [LV 2] At the end of the 3 initial slashes, Jerry will conclude the attack with a spin, creating waves that will swipe across the Bullet Board from both sides.
- [LV 3] 5 More slashes will be included, making the attack longer overall.
- [LV 4] Now multiple spins will be included in the combo.
- [LV 5] Much more slashes and spins will be included in the whole attack; at the end of it, Jerry will launch the Katana directly towards the SOUL.
Shooter Mode
During this mode, the SOUL will become yellow, now being capable of shooting projectiles with "[Z]", while holding and releasing the button will fire a "BIG SHOT", being bigger and having penetrating capabilities.
- [LV 1] Jerry will rapidly spin on itself, creating several yellow waves that will initially ascend out of screen, before all falling onto the Bullet Board. All yellow waves can be destroyed by the yellow SOUL's projectiles, giving a small amount of TP as well.
- [LV 2] Jerry will also create big waves that deal more damage and requires two normal projectiles to be destroyed or one big shot, as well as red waves that cannot be destroyed.
- [LV 3] More big and red waves will be generated.
- [LV 4] Even more waves will be generated overall, more will be big and around 50% of those will be red.
Jump Mode
During this mode, the SOUL will become blue, now being constantly affected by gravity. Pressing the “Up” button will cause the SOUL to effectively jump, how tall the jump will be is dependent on how long the button was held. It will also be possible to perform a dash by pressing [CONFIRM], with the direction dependent on what directional key is pressed, which is also capable to phase through platforms. After dashing once, it can be performed again only after landing on solid ground.
Compared to the other colors, the blue sword is capable of performing 2 different attacks:
Platform gauntlet
- [LV 1] After turning blue, Jerry's katana will fly to the right off the screen; several blue waves, platforms and barriers will start sliding across the Bullet Board, followed by the blue katana at the bottom, punishing the SOUL with heavy damage if it falls down. Near the end of the attack, a green candy will sit on an high platform (which requires a dash to be reached), right before a guaranteed projectile will swipe across it a few seconds later; if taken, the candy will recover 3 HP to everyone. This is also the only version of this attack where the candy will appear.
- [LV 2] The layout of platforms and barriers will be harder overall, with more blue waves being generated. At the end of the attack, a very long platform will appear, and Jerry's katana will launch itself directly towards the SOUL, tracking it's movement.
Spinning blade
- [LV 1] Jerry's katana will position to the right of the Bullet Board, spinning faster and faster, until it creates a wind strong enough to push the SOUL to the left; then the two sides of the Bullet Board will be covered in spikes, while several platforms and blue waves from the sword itself will come from the right.
- [LV 2] Far more waves will be generated during the attack, and at the end of it the katana will launch itself towards the SOUL.
Mercy
Jerry can be spared by using all ACTs available in a specific order, each one increasing its Mercy bar by various amounts; after selecting the correct ACT at any given time, it is then followed by a specific flavor text suggesting the next correct one to select. The ACTs order and their effect is at follows:
- Challenge (requiring Susie's turn) will increase Jerry's Mercy by 1%, with Kris and Susie expressing their flabbergastment with Jerry having just killed Glyde.
- Inquire (replacing Noelle's N-Action) will increase Jerry's Mercy by 2%, with Noelle expressing her confusion regarding why it should matter if Glyde didn't do anything important for society, as it should instead be a good thing for Jerry in a place like Desolate Snowdin.
- Reflect will increase Jerry's mercy by 3%, with Kris wondering why it matters if Jerry is respected, from which Jerry is willing to further elaborate.
- Criticize (replacing Susie's S-Action) will increase Jerry's bar by 4%, with Susie criticizing Jerry's mindset regarding that it should be respected for having high stats, so that anyone doesn't die. This will also enrage Jerry, increasing its ATTACK for the next turn.
- A second Challenge will increase Jerry's mercy by 5%, with Kris and Susie bashing Jerry that being essentially the "big bully" isn't fun.
- A third Challenge will increase Jerry's mercy by 10%, With Kris and Susie pressing on the matter, that what it is all about it's just being a loser and how pathetic that would be.
- A second Reflect will increase Jerry's mercy by 10%, with Kris reflecting on when Susie saved them from King's wrath, and how that strengthened their friendship.
- A second Inquire will increase Jerry's mercy by 10%, with Noelle inquiring about Jerry's mindset, that remaining a killer among many would just make more killers.
- A second Criticize will increase Jerry's mercy by 15%, with Susie telling it to ignore the status quo and that making a good change on the world would get Jerry a lot more respect than it would not.
- Praise to encourage Jerry to take a new direction with his life will finally completely fill Jerry's mercy bar by 100%, removing its hostile state and will stop it attacking.
After Jerry can be spared, Ditch can be used to remove it from the battle, ending the fight. Besides some dialogue changes, it is essentially the same as sparing it.
Last but not least, SoulFinisher is "The last resort" for when Jerry becomes fully invulnerable from attacks, requiring 100% TP and everyone's turns to grant Kris a full health refill from Noelle's ICE powers, and a series of weak but incredibly fast series of punches from Susie's RUDE power, allowing for a final showdown between Kris and Jerry. It will also begin playing "It Has To Be This Way". Uniquely for an ACT, it's purpose it's directly for killing, instead of sparing.
Strategy
Regardless of how the player wants to defeat Jerry, one extremely useful tip is to use N-Action on Glyde before Jerry attacks. This will provide overheal HP to all of the party, which will help with survival. However, the player must also not get hit at all during Glyde's first attack.
Sparing
For mercy, Jerry's fight could also be considered a "battle of conflicting opinions", as it requires the combined effort of all Delta Warriors's ACTs to finally change Jerry's prospect on the world. This can be done by following the order of ACTs below, which is even more important when considering that Jerry's attacks will gradually become more intense and dangerous the longer the battle draws out, making sparing it as soon as possible a priority:
1st Challenge -> 1st Inquire -> 1st Reflect -> 1st criticize -> 2nd Challenge -> 3rd Challenge -> 2nd Reflect -> 2nd Inquire -> 2nd criticize -> Praise
The 1st Challenge and Inquire can both be done on the 1st turn. After this, performing multiple acts will not work on the same turn.
Killing
For fighting, it will instead become a battle of endurance: while initially dealing promising damage, Jerry will gradually get more and more defense as it loses health (by Jerry's words, its natural ability to harden its body in response to trauma), something even Susie will notice more and more as the battle continues. At 20% HP left, Jerry will become fully impervious to any attack and damage dealt to it.
At this point, SoulFinisher will become available for 100% TP and everyone's turns, combining Noelle's ICE powers to fully heal Kris, and Susie's RUDE power to grant them a series of weak but incredibly fast series of punches by either mashing [CONFIRM] or holding it, each dealing only 1 damage but an extremely high speed rate. Jerry will then drop its sword, impaling it into the ground, allowing Kris to freely hit itself. After dealing enough initial damage, Jerry's sword will start moving on its own, attacking the SOUL until Jerry's HP is eventually reduced to zero, ending the fight.
Attacks will stop after Jerry's HP reaches zero, though some bullets may still be lingering. If the SOUL gets hit by any of these lingering bullets however, they will only deal 1 damage.
Mashing [CONFIRM] can theoretically be faster than holding it, but it can very quickly get physically tiring, and may also reduce your ability to reliably dodge the attacks while mashing. Mashing is also very likely to not be a viable strategy for mobile users. In these circumstances, you should consider just holding [CONFIRM] when using SoulFinisher.
A particular strategy for PC players is, if you have a very good friend or family member who's willing to help out, you could focus on dodging and slowly mashing while they quickly mash another [CONFIRM] key for you. For example, you can focus on dodging while also mashing [Z] somewhat, while your friend/family member fully focuses on mashing [ENTER] as quickly as possible. So long as they are not distracting or obscuring your view, this will make this part of the fight a bit easier, since [CONFIRM] will be being spammed at a very high speed throughout the attack.

- Susie: Let's just get going.
(Either way, if the player was on the Obliteration Route)
- Jerry: So I thought about how I could turn my life around.

- Noelle: I'm sure it isn't like that, Susie.
- Susie: Whatever.
- Susie: Let's go.
(Killed)
- Susie: Yeesh, that was... Something.
- Susie: You good, Kris?
- Noelle: Hey, his sword is still here.
- Susie: Huh.
- Susie: Well, uhh
- Susie: Sure.
- [Normal Route]
- Noelle: Is something wrong, Susie?
- Susie: No, but...
- Susie: Nevermind.
- Susie: I guess you can take it, Kris.
- [Obliteration Route]
- Noelle: (Susie, are you sure that isn't going to...)
- Susie: (I don't think it's anywhere as powerful as Paula's pan.)
- Noelle: (Okay...)
- Susie: I... I guess it's your choice, Kris.
Notes
- While the Bluster Blade is powerful, it requires the player to kill Jerry, which will give 1 EXP. This will abort a Pacifist route, making useful pacifist-exclusive items unobtainable.
- Sparing Jerry will abort the Obliteration Route like any other enemy, so the
Blood Bandana cannot be obtained unless it is aborted. - You are able to anger Jerry by using an exploit in Shooter Mode which consists of holding down either Z or ENTER while spamming the other key. This causes the soul to fire a large amount of BIG SHOTS as if you did not have to charge them. Jerry in his ANGERED state will have steam-like particles emanating from his body and will deal double the damage on all attacks until the end of the fight.
- This is a reference to Spamton Neo from Deltarune who is also able to achieve this effect.
Trivia
- If Jerry is spared while on the Obliteration Route, the
Bluster Blade can be seen broken on the floor in the room before the GG!Underfell Sans fight.
- Jerry as a boss shares many similarities to the secret bosses in Deltarune: it is a hard, optional boss fight that requires a lengthy method to be spared or a high amount of damage to be defeated, and its reward changes based on the method used to finish the fight, that being armor for being spared, or a weapon for being defeated with violence.
- A slight teaser for Jerry was made on Deltatraveler's Tumblr before Section 3 was released. However, it was very vague.[1]
- Even if the
Clean Pan was not obtained after killing Paula on the Obliteration Route, Susie will still compare the
Bluster Blade to it if Jerry was killed. - Much of the sequence after selecting SoulFinisher has numerous references to Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, specifically it's final boss, Senator Steven Armstrong:
- The final boss theme "It Has To Be This Way" after selecting SoulFinisher.
- Jerry's phrases "I have the natural ability to harden my body in response to trauma!" and "You can't hurt me, human!!!" are extremely similar to the infamous phrases by Armstrong: "Nanomachines, Son. They harden in response to physical trauma." and "You can't hurt me, Jack.".
- Kris's extremely fast series of punches at low damage are a reference to the scene of Raiden trying to punch Steven Armstrong at extremely high speed, while dealing little to no damage. ,
